Jordana Brewster has been a mainstay in the Fast & Furious franchise, appearing in seven of the eleven movies. However, the actor recently shared that she is not happy with how she portrayed her character, Mia Toretto, in 2009’s Fast & Furious.

In an interview with ComingSoon to promote her new thriller Cellar DoorBrewster explained how she doesn’t believe she played Mia with enough grit in the fourth Fast movie, which reunited the actor with Paul Walker and Dominic Toretto for the first time since 2001’s The Fast and the Furious. “When I came back, I was so excited and so happy, and it was just like this gift that then kept on giving because now we’re at 10,” said Brewster. “But I recently watched one, four, and five, and Mia had this grittiness that in [the original] that I, it didn’t come back till five. So, I kind of feel like I sh-t the bed in four, and I regret it. I wish I could like time-travel and redo that one. But yeah, it’s pretty awesome that it’s such a big part of people’s lives.”

Following her Fast return in Fast & Furious, Brewster has appeared an additional five times in the franchise: Fast & Furious (2009), Fast Five (2011), Fast & Furious 6 (2013), Furious 7 (2015), F9 (2021), and Fast X (2023). She is also slated to appear in the untitled Fast & Furious 11, which is expected to be the final installment in The Fast Saga. Brewster is clearly a fan of the franchise’s earlier installments, as she recently expressed hope that Fast 11 would turn out to be similar to the first or fifth movies, saying, “I hope with the last one – if it is the last one – that it kind of goes back to the first one’s roots, because that one, that and five are my favorite, so I would love for it to have that same feel.”

Fast 11 Looks to End the Franchise

Fast 11 was originally announced alongside Fast X (2023) as a two-part finale for The Fast Saga. However, following the mixed critical reception of Fast X, as well as the movie’s underperformance at the box office, Universal has reportedly gone back to the drawing board for Fast 11. While the sequel is expected to continue from the cliffhanger ending of Fast X, it may not be as direct of a sequel as initially envisioned. According to insider Jeff Sneider, Fast 11 will reportedly do away with the more outlandish elements that have been added in recent installments in favor of a “back-to-basics” sequel revolving around “one last job.” The “lean and mean” sequel would also have a budget of around $200 million, a large drop from Fast X‘s massive $379 million budget.

In May 2024, Fast X director Louis Leterrier revealed that filming on the sequel would begin “early next year.” However, Brewster shared earlier this month that she had yet to receive a filming start date for Fast 11, leading some fans to question whether the action movie’s production schedule has once again shifted. “I don’t have a timeline. I’m usually — I mean, I’ll probably read it online, or I’ll try to, try to get some information out of Vin,” Brewster shared to Screen Rant. “But, no, I don’t know yet. But hopefully soon.”

The untitled Fast & Furious 11 is expected to open in theaters in 2026 after being delayed from its original April 2025 release date.
