The Setup – High Stakes, Low Options
In the third act of the film, Dom is in hot pursuit of a rogue black-ops helicopter carrying a kidnapped crew member. The chopper lifts off from a rooftop in the middle of downtown Rio, making a sharp turn toward the ocean.
With no time, no backup, and no other route, Dom does what only Dom Toretto would do:
He drives straight toward the edge of a parking tower…
at full speed.
The Jump – One Second of Madness
As the Charger hits the ramp — made from a tilted construction beam — time slows down.
The camera locks onto Dom’s face: calm, locked in, whispering…

How Did They Do It?
While CGI was used for safety, much of the stunt’s foundation was practical. Director Louis Leterrier confirmed that real car launches and rotor simulations were used to maintain the weight and realism of the scene.
“We wanted it to be ridiculous, but real enough that you say,
‘Only Dom could pull this off.’”
The Verdict
Dom has flipped cars, broken bridges, and raced submarines — but jumping a helicopter may be his most unhinged flex yet.
