Apply for the 2025–2026 Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) Fellowship. The 12-month NIH-supported Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) Fellowship provides mentored global health training.
One English-supported, supervised global health research fellowship addresses health disparities and improves population health. A collaboration of Yale, Stanford, UA, and UC Berkeley hosts the fellowship year from July to June, offering training in 17 countries. The scholarship is for US doctorate students (PhD, DrPH, etc.), US professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD), US postdoctoral fellows, and foreign postdoctoral fellows from LMICS-affiliated institutions. • US citizen or resident (application requires green card number). · Earn doctorate by June 1, 2025, or within five years.
• US applicants from any US institution with GHES mentor endorsements (UC Berkeley, University of Arizona, Stanford, Yale, or any GHES-affiliated LMIC institution).
• US GHES program manager clearance is required for non-UC Berkeley, Arizona, Stanford, or Yale applicants. Provide an NIH biosketch and the names of possible GHES mentors contacted. Doctoral degrees include MD, DVM, PhD, DrPH, and PharmD. The LMIC Postdoc Fellowship
LMIC Postdoc Fellowship
• World Bank-defined low-middle-income country citizen. · Earn a doctorate by June 1, 2025, or within five years.
• Applicant must be affiliated with one of the GHES partner LMIC universities and have GHES mentors (UC Berkeley, University of Arizona, Stanford, Yale, or others) approve the application.
• Doctoral degrees include MBBS, MMed, PhD, etc. US Scholarship for PhDs
• US resident or citizen.
• For the fellowship, must be a student at UC Berkeley, University of Arizona, Yale, or Stanford or a visiting student scholar.
• Advanced candidacy doctoral or professional students (MD, DDS, DVM, PharmD) with 3 years of professional study.
Application
You must commit 100% of the 12-month fellowship year to GHES if approved. You must work full-time on GHES and cannot work another employment. U.S. fellows must spend 10-12 months at their GHES LMIC. LMIC fellowships require 1-3 months at their GHES U.S. school. All fellows must attend a week-long July NIH Campus orientation.

Welcome to the Global Health Equity Scholars (GHES) fellowship application website. GHES is a one-year supervised global health research training fellowship supported by the NIH Fogarty International Center and managed by Stanford, Arizona, Berkeley, and Yale universities.
The alliance works with 17 low- and middle-income countries’ medical and research institutes. The fellowship year involves research training at one of these institutions and a project related to the health priorities of the participating LMIC under the supervision of their mentors. GHES-collaborating LMICs and U.S.
pre- and post-doctoral applicants can apply online. Students in pre-doctoral or pre-health professional programs apply. Post-doctoral trainees are recent doctorate or health graduates.

U.S. and LMIC school mentor teams are assigned by GHES. Mentor teams often collaborate on research, thus if you want to work with a GHES U.S. mentor, your LMIC mentor may be his/her collaborator and vice versa. All applicants must have a primary GHES U.S. mentor (a faculty member at Stanford, University of Arizona, University of California Berkeley, or Yale University) and a primary GHES LMIC mentor. The GHES program requires at least one primary U.S. and one primary LMIC mentor. You can propose more mentors.
Post-doctoral and pre-doctoral applicants from any U.S. college or university can apply. You can apply without being linked with Stanford, Arizona, Berkeley, or Yale. You must have a professional relationship with a GHES U.S. mentor at one of these universities.
LMIC post-doctoral applicants must be linked with a GHES-collaborating LMICS. You must have a PhD or health professional degree to apply for U.S. and LMIC post-doctoral positions.
Health professional post-doctoral applicants must have finished clinical training within 5 years (2019 and after).
Non-clinical post-doctoral applicants must have a doctorate from 2019 or later. Also, ensure you meet GHES program standards. You must commit 100% of the 12-month fellowship year to GHES if approved. You must work full-time on GHES and cannot work another employment.
