The upcoming Highlander reboot at Amazon MGM has added another big name to its cast. British actress Marisa Abela has officially joined the project. As per Reporter, Abela will play a new immortal character created for the reboot. Her character is a skilled swordplay teacher and one of Connor MacLeod’s past loves, a new addition not seen in the 1986 original.

John Wick director Chad Stahelski is helming the film, which stars Henry Cavill and Russell Crowe. The two last appeared together in the 2013 film Man of Steel. Cavill takes on the role of MacLeod, the Scottish warrior who learns he’s immortal, while Crowe plays Ramirez, the legendary mentor and fellow immortal, originally portrayed by Sean Connery.

The story follows a hidden world of immortals fated to battle each other across centuries until only one remains. They can only be killed by beheading, with the final survivor claiming the mysterious Prize.

The reboot is produced by Amazon MGM Studios and United Artists, with a script from Michael Finch, who co-wrote John Wick: Chapter 4. This new version is expected to deepen the lore surrounding the immortals and introduce fresh characters from different corners of the world.

The original Highlander film, directed by Russell Mulcahy, released in 1986 and starred Christopher Lambert as MacLeod, alongside Roxanne Hart, Clancy Brown, and Sean Connery. It spawned multiple sequels and spin-offs, cementing its place as a cult fantasy-action classic.

The Highlander reboot is planned for a theatrical release, though no release date has been announced yet.
