A new long-time favorite for the next James Bond has now emerged as the official favorite among fans to lead the iconic action franchise. According to research carried out by BetVictor, Marvel actor, Oscar-nominee, and Venom star Tom Hardy has seen a surge in popularity for the role of 007 after the 47-year-old Inception star dipped behind younger actors like Kraven the Hunter star Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Challengers and The Crown star Josh O’Connor, and The Gentlemen’s Theo James.

The research reveals that Hardy is now the most popular choice among fans to succeed Daniel Craig, who made an explosive exit from the coveted role in 2021’s No Time to Die. The findings put Tom Hardy as the #1 choice with 33.47% of the vote, while former Superman actor Henry Cavill came second with 22.31%, and The Wire star Idris Elba following in third with 16.73%.

Best known for roles in the likes of Mad Max: Fury Road, The Dark Knight Rises, and the comic book movie blockbuster Venom trilogy, Tom Hardy has been a favorite for the role of James Bond for some time. His combination of on-screen intensity, charm, and his affinity for action would no doubt give the 007 franchise a captivating new lead for its next era. However, based on the criteria given by longtime producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (most notably regarding age), it’s unlikely that Hardy will ever sip a martini before utilizing his licence to kill to save the world. But this won’t stop the fans from dreaming!

While the likes of Hardy, Cavill, Elba, and Taylor-Johnson often now find themselves in contention for the role of James Bond, there has been a rapid rise in popularity for The Crown star Josh O’Connor, who recently took the top spot as the bookies’ favorite. O’Connor saw his 007 chances rise sharply following a prediction from The Hollywood Reporter that the actor, who is also known for roles in the likes of Challengers, Emma, God’s Own Country, and Lee, would be picked by producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson for the iconic role.

At present, we have no idea what the plans are for the James Bond franchise and where the studio will take the character next. However, it could be some time before we find out, as recent reports have claimed that trouble is brewing between producer Barabara Broccoli and Amazon after the latter purchased MGM back in March 2022. The report claims that Amazon is hoping to turn James Bond into a franchise with all manner of spin-off movies and TV shows being part of their plan. Broccoli, though, is unhappy with this idea, with the producer reportedly branding Amazon “f***ing idiots.”
